About: I am Frederic Nikiema, I am Medical Doctor currently working as junior researcher, clinical investigator for malaria and tropical neglected diseases branch of “Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la santé, IRSS”, one of the lead research institution in Burkina Faso. My main tasks are to contribute to design clinical trials for our settings and to ensure the implementation of these trials where assessed in human subjects the efficacy and safety of new drugs and vaccines developed by pharmaceutical companies or universities. I also ensure the recruitment and the follow up of subjects involved in these trials. Coming from a resource challenged environment where vaccine preventable diseases remain a major public health concern. My aim from when I was studying medicine was to work in research where new medicines and vaccines could be developed to decrease the burden of diseases. I have been fortunate to be selected as trainee clinical research and development at GSK Biologicals (WHO/TDR fellowship), I thus have the opportunity to work with vaccine developers, to follow studies on diseases that affect us and to be trained on most of the topics in this area. I am looking forward to build up with my team in Burkina Faso, a technical advisory group to lead research on vaccines against diseases that affect us and to be involved in policy making in my country.
